Parag is a multidisciplinary artist from Assam, currently based in Delhi, whose practice explores the intersections of cultural memory, food traditions, identity, and socio-political resistance. Through painting, drawing, and installation, he constructs layered visual narratives that reflect on belonging, migration, and the emotional impact of conflict.
His ongoing series, A Feast of Identities, examines the rich culinary heritage of Northeast India through large-scale, detailed compositions. In these works, food becomes more than sustenance—it serves as a carrier of memory, community, and cultural history. Drawing inspiration from Dutch still-life painting and contemporary menu aesthetics, Parag reinterprets traditional culinary forms to foreground food practices rooted in ecology, ritual, and collective experience. Ingredients such as fermented bamboo shoots, sticky rice, smoked meats, and fresh herbs appear as recurring motifs, connecting Northeast Indian food cultures with those of neighboring Southeast Asian regions including Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines. Through these elements, he highlights oral histories, shared resilience, and cross-cultural exchange.
Alongside his exploration of food and heritage, Parag’s work also addresses the psychological and social consequences of violence and displacement. He is interested in how conflict reshapes both personal and collective identities, often revisiting historical imagery through a contemporary lens. Using expressive brushwork, symbolic imagery, and bold color, his works create spaces for reflection, empathy, and dialogue.
At the core of his practice is the understanding of identity as a shared and evolving human experience shaped by memory, history, and resilience.
