Deepjyoti Kalita was born in the city of Guwahati, Assam. During the school days itself, Deepjyoti got a chance to learn the basics of drawing and painting which propelled him towards the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda from where he obtained bachelor and master degrees in Sculpture in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
Migrating from Guwahati to Baroda for study unsettled the artist's 'settled’ horizon of thinking and understanding about human bonding and ruptures in different social settings, in different places. And to work around these dynamic things, he moved from static sculptural forms to animated forms. Initially exploring video as art form to incorporating upcoming electronic devices such as programmable LEDs, sensor, Aruduino, simple robotics, led him to blend different art mediums to articulate his ideas. He is yet to explore role of any given technique and technology, practices in a wider conundrum of controlling it, controlled by it, mastering over it, mastered by it and its subsequent effects on human’s relationship with human as well as with nature.
