SN Sujith, considered as one of the most promising Indian artists, is known for effecting a paradigm shift to the medium of watercolour. Tall structures resembling surveillance towers, eerie landscapes with dubious topographies, mob marching to the tune of unseen powers that be, people who struggle with the bloody baggage of history – Sujith’s landscapes invite you to a make-believe land, far away from the surroundings, yet invoking familiar realm of emotions. Sujith completed his MFA in painting from SN School of fine arts, Hyderabad, in 2007 and BFA in painting from college of fine arts, Thrissur, in 2005. He was born in Baroda, Gujarat in 1979. Following the footsteps of his father, Sujith joined Indian military services, only to re-affirm his passion towards visual art, which took him to the fine arts college. His solitary traverses through barracks, schools and other defining institutions of life, command metaphorical manifestations in his works of art. Sujith has 9 solo shows and 50+ group shows, at various locations in India and abroad, to his credit. Sujith is also curator of Niracharthu national art camps, an annual art fiesta, conducted by a village art community. He has been part of the curation team of Keraleeyam, a landmark art exhibition of Govt. of Kerala. He has won several awards, including the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi special mention award in 2004, state award in 2005 and the Foundation of Indian Contemporary Art emerging artist award in 2011. He was also long-listed for the Skoda Prize in 201 and was a finalist for the Sovereign Asia Art Prize in 2019. After a long stint at Mumbai, the artist returned to his home state and currently lives and works at Kochi, Kerala.
