Born (1998) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Deepa did her BFA in painting from Rajasthan University and is currently pursuing post-graduation from College of Fine Arts Trivandrum. Born and brought up in the world heritage pink city of Jaipur which encounters the rapid changes by urbanization, she took her inspiration from the fascinating histories of past cultures and bygone civilizations whose traces are still present in an intense silence that is always there but somehow overlooked. Deepa explores the visual elements of Jaipur as an excavated archeological site and its mysterious atmosphere. Gradually, her research into the history of Jaipur led me to Amber, a region from which people moved to Jaipur and is now completely depopulated and uninhabited. Amber eventually turned into a place shrouded in secrecy. It is a place of worship, horror, a place of black magic, and people believe to have paranormal activities there. The wonderful oral storytelling culture that Rajasthan is known for was influenced by all of these myths and beliefs. The oral tradition of Rajasthan is worth studying in the post-modern scenario where pre-colonial traditions are still dominant.
