Amitesh Shrivastava, born in 1975 in Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, earned his BFA from Khairagarh University in 1997 and MFA from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in 2000. His art—comprising expressive paintings and ink drawings—explores layered personal and cultural experiences. Shrivastava reconfigures brushstrokes, color palettes, and characters to reflect his evolving worldview. Deeply connected to his roots in Chhattisgarh, he draws from the life, ecology, and traditions of the region while also engaging with urban modernity, technology, and digital culture. Eschewing rigid categories and ideological frameworks, his work resists clear-cut interpretation, instead fusing agrarian and urban elements to reflect on humanity, hierarchy, and media-saturated realities.
His color palette blends earthy tones—sand-brown, red-brown, forest greens—with artificial hues like icing pink and sulphur yellow, reflecting a dialogue between rural tradition and urban modernity. His energetic, large-scale brushwork creates visual complexity and emotional clarity.
Shrivastava has held solo exhibitions at Project 88 (2022, 2020, 2017), and notable international shows such as Earthly Delights (2024, Donostia-San Sebastián) and The Sniffer (2022, New York). His work has also featured in major group exhibitions in India and abroad. He currently lives and works in Mumbai.
