Artist, Independent Curator and Cultural Activist, Prabhakar Kamble’s art addresses the existential conditioning of India’s silent majority, marginalised by the hierarchies of caste. His practice is informed by Ambedkarite principles that privilege equality over caste identity. He works in the grassroots as a cultural activist and is the convenor of the Secular Art movement. Prabhakar has curated several exhibitions in various parts of the world and his recent curation includes ‘Object Making Exercise’ at India Art Fair 2023. In 2017 he curated ‘Working Practices’, at the Showroom, London, which was a significant curation with a cross disciplinary format in conjunction with Clark House Initiative. The curation drew from the connections between the British Black Arts movement and artists whose practices concerned Ambedkarite politics within the Indian contemporary art scene.
